What is a C.H.E.K (Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology) assessment?

The C.H.E.K assessment is based on my training at the C.H.E.K Institute in California, which has given me the grounding to specialise in corrective exercise. The term corrective exercise has become popular over the past 10 years to describe programmes that have been written to improve an individual's posture or function. Over the past 6 years I have used corrective exercise to great effect in helping my clients overcome chronic pain and/or improve their sporting performance. The C.H.E.K Practitioner Programme is widely considered to be the most comprehensive exercise education programme in the world.

Your C.H.E.K assessment is a very detailed look at the function of your body, both in a static and dynamic environment. Here is a breakdown of what we will be looking at:

  • Lumbar and thoracic spinal curvature
  • Neurological screening
  • Abdominal muscle function
  • Breathing mechanics
  • Joint range-of-motion
  • Length/tension relationships
  • Primal movement pattern analysis
  • Postural analysis
  • Sacro-iliac joint function
  • Upper cervical assessment

These assessments will ensure that we get to the root of your problems. During this process, any red flags will be identified. This means that if you have, for example, a spondylolysis or a spinal stenosis, this will be detected during your assessment process and you will be referred to an appropriate medical practitioner to assist with your programme.

These assessments ensure that you get the very most from your programme because it is written specifically for you, based solely on your needs. Regardless of your goal, I recommend also paying attention to your nutrition and lifestyle habits - we have various programmes available at Optima to help you with this. To improve performance or alleviate chronic pain, it is vital to give the body adequate nutrition and rest to assist this process.

Remember, I offer a free, no-obligation consultation so if you are interested in finding out more about my coaching and to visit the studio, please do not hesitate to call on 01872 263 500, or e-mail info@optimastudio.co.uk.
